Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega will headline a UFC tournament in Mexico

A featherweight bout between Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega will headline a UFC tournament on Feb. 24 in Mexico.

Informed sources close to the situation have reported the matchup.

The fight between top welterweights will be a rematch – last July Ortega suffered a shoulder injury in the first round and refused to continue the fight with the Mexican, losing by technical knockout. After that, the American did not return to the octagon, and Rodriguez won the interim championship belt in a confrontation with Josh Emmett, and then in the unification fight lost to Alexander Volkanovski by technical knockout in the third round.

Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega are currently ranked second and third in the UFC’s welterweight rankings, respectively.

The second main event of the Mexican event of the world’s strongest league will be a featherweight bout between former UFC champion Brandon Moreno of Mexico and Iraqi-born Amir Albazi, who rounds out the top three fighters in the division.
