American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) visited his Finnish buddy Robert Helenius (31-4, 19 KOs) in a hotel room the day after their bout, which became the main event of a boxing evening in Brooklyn (USA).
Wilder apologized to his former sparring partner for the knockout he sent him to in the first round, and Helenius said that he was saying goodbye to the ring.
“Now is your time, and it’s time for me to say that I’m leaving. I’m already 38 and have been doing this for the last 25 years,” said Robert. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to fight you. You are part of who I am now. I really appreciate you and everything that you have done for me and in sports.”
The fighters hugged, Wilder talked to the Helenius team, and everyone was warm at heart.
