The day before, the main PPV card of the boxing evening on October 15 in Brooklyn (USA) was officially announced, the main event of which will be a heavyweight fight between former world champion American Deontay Wilder and Robert Helenius from Finland.
A 12-round WBC super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) candidate fight will be held by ex-world champions from the USA Caleb Plant (21-1, 12 KOs) and Anthony Dirrell (34-2-2, 25 KOs). This will be Plant’s first time in the ring since losing to Canelo Alvarez last November. Dirrell had a similar downtime, but Anthony hadn’t had decent opposition for three years.
Another 12-round contender’s fight, only from the WBA, will be held in the lightest category (up to 55.3 kg) – the rematch will be held by American Gary Antonio Russell (19-0, 12 KOs) and Puerto Rican ex-world champion Emmanuel Rodriguez ( 20-2, 13 KOs). Their first fight took place in August last year and was declared invalid after the opponents clashed heads in the first round and Rodriguez could not continue due to injury.
A 10-round heavyweight fight between Cuban prospect Frank Sanchez (20-0, 13 KOs) and Puerto Rican Carlos Negron (25-3, 20 KOs) will also be included in the PPV broadcast. For Sanchez, this is the first performance since January of this year, when he outboxed Christian Hammer in 10 rounds rather boringly.
“Joshua is a dude who was bought championship belts,” Wilder said in the meantime.
