Promoter Bob Arum (Top Rank) believes that the unified heavyweight champion Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) will not cope with the American puncher Deontay Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs).
Recently, this fight has been talked about a lot, because most recently Usyk was asked with whom he would like to fight next – the Ukrainian chose Wilder.
Interestingly, at the same time, Arum practically
solidarity with a colleague from Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearnom: Wilder probably wouldn’t really have won a round. But despite this, I would not want to see this man in the list of my sworn enemies. He is very cool. He proved it in the fight with Tyson Fury. Remember, Tyson controlled the course of the fight, beat Deontay. And he suddenly almost turned the tide of the fight, sending Fury to the canvas twice. You know, he’s a very underrated fighter.”
According to Arum, “Usyk is probably too small to resist Deontay. And he doesn’t have the same punch. Therefore, in this fight, I would bet on Wilder. How good is Deontay as a puncher? We have no way to compare fighters from different eras. We don’t know if Wilder is better than Ernie Shavers. We don’t know if he’s a better puncher than George Foreman. Hard to say. In my opinion he is the best heavyweight puncher in this generation right after Fury.”
Meanwhile, Wilder’s coach believes that only Deontay can beat Usyk. And the puncher himself says contentedly: “Usyk’s words are music to my ears.”
