Promoter Eddie HearnMatchroom Boxing) spoke harshly about his colleague Jake Paul (MVP Promotions), with whom they are together in April in New York (USA) at the legendary sports complex Madison Square Garden organized the coolest fight in the history of women’s boxing – a duel for the title of absolute lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) between Irish Kathy Taylor (21-0, 6 KOs) and Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano (42-2-1, 30 KOs).
The fight suddenly turned out so cool that it can compete with the best fights among men and compete for victory in the nomination fight of the year. Taylor celebrated an undeniable victory. And they broke the record. The parties talked about a rematch, but now the negotiations will stall – the winner’s promoter Hearn is unhappy with the offer of the loser’s promoter Paul.
Boss MVP Promotions offers Taylor 2 million USD for a fight in the featherweight limit (up to 57.2 kg), in which Serrano has two titles – WBC and WBO.
Hearn’s response: What do I think of all this? That Jake once again proved how far he is from the boxing business. Taylor at featherweight? She has competed in the lightweight division her entire career. She is the absolute champion. Her job is to defend titles. To suggest that she could just drop her weight to the featherweight limit just like that is the dumbest and most idiotic thing that could be said. She will not make the limit below light weight. Not even going to try. I understand that it would be more convenient for Serrano to box at 63.5 kg, but Taylor never competed in this weight.
According to Hearn, “If Amanda believes she won the first fight, then what’s the problem to prove it in a rematch in an 80,000-seat stadium and get even more than last time? This will be an even more significant event. Our task is not to prevent them from doing it again. After all, otherwise they will not earn as much, only in revenge. It was an incredible fight. You think you have won. We believe we have won. So what’s the problem with doing it again?”
Previously, Hearn had the idea of bringing Taylor together with MMA stars.
