Whittaker gave his prediction for the Strickland and Du Plessis fight

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker shared his opinion on the upcoming title fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis headlining UFC 297 in Toronto on Jan. 20.

“It’s going to clear up a lot of things,” the Australian told Submission Radio. “There’s a form of madness going on in the division. Some people have fights scheduled, some are inactive and some are just sitting idle. Wins and losses in the top five have already turned everything upside down, and then Chimaev and Usman come in and have a challenger fight”

Whittaker considers the favorite in this confrontation South African fighter, who in July this year finished him by technical knockout in the second round.

“Dricus got a title shot and will face Shawn and I think it’s fair because he beat me and he deserved it. As for the prediction, I’m betting on Dricus because then I’ll have a chance to take a rematch from him and get my title back. Both guys like to take a fight, and how can I doubt Dricus after he beat me?”

After defeating Whittaker, Dricus Du Plessis refused to fight Israel Adesanya two months later and lost his title shot to Sean Strickland, who sensationally defeated the Nigerian by unanimous decision on Sept. 9 at UFC 293 in Sydney to become the organization’s new middleweight champion.
