Reclaiming her title against Carla Esparza, reigning UFC strawweight champion Weili Zhang is ready to take on UFC flyweight belt holder Valentina Shevchenko.
“Yes, I would like to meet Valentina Shevchenko, by all means,” said the Chinese woman in the next edition of the MMA Hour program. “No questions. I thought about this a couple of years ago. In the end, we will split the octagon because our weight classes are close. I don’t know if I can take the title from her, but one thing I can guarantee is that if we get into the octagon with her, it will be fireworks. It will be a great performance, regardless of the result.”
On November 12 at UFC 281 in New York, Weili Zhang regained her championship belt by finishing Carl Esparza with a rear naked choke in the second round, and Valentina Shevchenko last entered the octagon in June of this year, winning a split decision against Taila Santos.
