Volkanovski’s coach called Makhachev a Russian dancer

Alexander Volkanovski’s grappling coach Craig Jones, who has called Sambo a myth, continues his campaign to discredit the Russian martial artist ahead of his charge’s rematch against Islam Makhachev.

According to the Australian specialist, Volkanovski already in the first fight proved the ineffectiveness of this martial art, and in the second match will finally nullify the skills that the Russian is proud of.

“This makes Alex the man who disproved the effectiveness of sambo and it will be a great contribution to his legacy because we destroyed another martial art,” MMA Junkie quoted the Australian as saying. “Most martial arts were destroyed in 1993, but sambo somehow held on and waddled to 2023. Volkanovski killed sambo and we won’t be hearing about the martial art of this Russian dancer again”

“In preparation for the first fight against Makhachev, we spent a lot of time on defense against submisons. Obviously, it was a waste of time because Islam doesn’t know any submissions. He just hangs on his back for 20 minutes. This time, we’ll probably manage to get out of the triangle to the body. In the first fight, there was no threat of submissions, so Alex was just resting, recovering, and throwing punches to the head. This time we’re going to be able to break free. Like I said, we’ve heard of ketch wrestling, and we’ve heard of sambo, but we’ve never seen it work”

As a reminder, the lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Alex Volkanovski will be the main event of UFC 294, which takes place on October 21 in Abu Dhabi.
