In the event of a successful title unification against Yair Rodriguez, reigning UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski is set to challenge the winner of Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje for the vacant BMF belt.
“If I had to bet, I would bet on Poirier,” the Australian said in a video posted on his YouTube channel. “He won the first time they fought and I’m leaning towards him winning now. And yet, I can’t say that Justin Gaethje won’t catch him for sure.”
“I am ready to fight anyone, anytime, including for the BMF belt. I would like to do it. If Islam fights Oliveira and does his job, we can have a rematch. Then I will have three belts! Lightweight title, featherweight title, and BMF belt”
A featherweight unification bout between Volkanovski and Rodriguez will headline UFC 290 on July 8 in Las Vegas, while a lightweight bout between Poirier and Gaethje will headline UFC 291 in Salt Lake City on July 29. .
