Volkanovski called Chikaze a whipping bag and explained why he lost to Kattar

The current UFC featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski explained why the Georgian Giga Chikadze lost to the American Calvin Kattar.

“I think this fight opened Gige’s eyes,” Volkanovski told The MMA Hour. “In a fight against such a fighter, you can’t rely only on kicking. This fight showed that it is enough to deprive him of his trademark Giga-kick, and he turns into a bag to fight. That’s why it’s important to fight against well-rounded fighters. Soberly assess your level before declaring a desire to fight a champion. With my ability to adapt along the way, with my cardio and all the other skills, in a fight with me, everything would end very badly for him.

Chikaze lost to Kattar by unanimous decision in a five-round fight at UFC on ESPN 32, which took place on the night of January 16 in Las Vegas.

Prior to the loss to Kattar, Chikadze criticized Alex Volkanovskiy for the upcoming fight with the South Korean Chen Sung Jong, nicknamed the Korean Zombie.
