Vicente Luque and Ian Machado Garry fight has been canceled

Undefeated Irish fighter Ian Machado Garry, who was scheduled to share the ocatgon with Brazilian Vicente Luque this weekend, has pulled out of the UFC 296 event due to illness.

This was officially announced by the head of the UFC, Dana White.

“I know there are already rumors that the Ian Garry and Vicente Luque fight is not going to happen, and it’s true,” the head of the organization said in a video posted on social media. “Ian Garry came down with the flu and it turned into pneumonia. So their fight has been canceled and will not take place. It’s for real.”

At the same time, the Irishman himself claims that he wanted to go to the fight, but the UFC doctors decided to remove him from the fight.

“I have pneumonia,” sports columnist Ariel Helwani quoted the fighter as saying. “They did everything they could to help me, but in the end, the UFC doctors told me there was no chance I could fight. The UFC doctors made that decision. That upset me more than anyone else. I wanted to fight. It’s my favorite thing to do.”

“His voice sounded really bad,” added the reporter who spoke to the welterweight on the phone.

As a reminder, UFC 296 will take place on Dec. 16 in Las Vegas, and its main event will be a welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington.
