Vasyl Lomachenko’s opponent and the date of the fight have been announced

Two-time Olympic champion and former world champion in boxing in three weight categories, Vasyl Lomachenko, will return to the ring on May 12 in Perth, Australia, and the opponent of the Ukrainian will be a former world champion in boxing in the lightweight division, Australian George Kambososos.

At stake in the fight will be the vacant IBF lightweight championship belt, as reported by ESPN.

The fight between Cambosos and Lomaceno was supposed to take place in the summer of 2022 in Australia, however, the Ukrainian boxer was forced to cancel the fight because of the events in Ukraine.

As a result, the Australian stepped up for a unification fight for the absolute world lightweight title against Devin Haynie, and lost four titles, losing to the American by unanimous decision. Four months later, Kambososos suffered another defeat at the hands of Haney, losing to him by unanimous decision in a rematch.

In July 2023, George Kambososos put his career back on track by defeating Brit Maxie Hughes by majority judges’ decision.

Vasyl Lomachenko attempted to take the title of absolute world lightweight boxing champion from Devin Haynie last May, losing to the American by unanimous decision, which many fans and experts considered extremely controversial.
