Vasily Lomachenko lost to Devin Haney for the undisputed world title

Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko failed to become the undisputed lightweight champion of the world, having suffered a controversial defeat in the confrontation with American Devin Haney at the Top Rank event in Las Vegas.

The fight went the whole distance, following the results of twelve rounds of which the judges, by unanimous decision with a score of 116-112 and 115-113, twice gave the victory to the undefeated champion.

The audience in the hall greeted the judge’s verdict with a dissatisfied roar, as they considered that Lomachenko, who worked as the first number for most of the match, set the pace of the battle, and confidently took the championship rounds, won this fight. At the same time, the official statistics of the match confirm the advantage of the Ukrainian boxer.

In an interview after the fight, Haney said that he considers his victory absolutely legitimate, and Lomachenko made it clear that he was not going to end his career, however, he evaded answering the question about his future plans.

Having defended four championship belts, 24-year-old Devin Haney won his thirtieth career victory, and 35-year-old Vasily Lomachenko suffered his third professional defeat.
