Former world champion in three categories, Ukrainian lightweight Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) said that the current WBA World lightweight champion American Gervonta Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) has never fought with a top division fighter .
Interestingly, Vasily cited the Mexican Isaac Cruz (24-2-1, 17 KOs) as an example – one of the most spectacular, but still underestimated fighters of the category, whom Gervonta with great difficulty overpowered on points in December last year.
“He (Davis) has never fought a top fighter,” Lomachenko says. “I had never heard of Isaac Cruz before their fight. I did not know about him, but he deserved a place in the top fight. I haven’t seen Davis against good lightweight opposition. Never saw. He is a boxer who understands boxing and knows what to do in the ring. But, again, I want to see him against the top boxer in our category.”
Davis is expected to face Ryan Garcia in December.
