Reigning Bellator light heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov, who successfully defended his title against Yoel Romero over the weekend, may have a warm-up fight in the heavyweight division at the end of the year to face the winner of the title fight between Ryan Bader and Linton Vassell.
“As far as I understand, Vassell and Bader are now waiting for a date, and they may either have to wait, or, in order not to be idle, ask the organization to let them fight,” Nemkov said, talking to reporters upon arrival in Russia. “If it works out, then there will be a tournament in Japan on December 31 – they would give some, maybe Japanese, to feel like a heavyweight”
Earlier, the Russian fighter said that the decision to move to heavyweight will be made after he undergoes a medical examination and passes tests.
Recall that on June 16 at the Bellator 297 tournament in Chicago, Vadim Nemkov made his fourth defense of his title, defeating Cuban Yoel Romero by unanimous decision in five rounds. The Russian spent the previous three defenses of the championship belt as part of the Bellator light heavyweight grand prix, defeating Phil Davis, Julius Englikas and Corey Anderson.
