Promoter Frank Warrenqueensberry promotions) commented on the comeback of the WBC heavyweight champion Briton Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs), and shared his expectations from the second confrontation for the rest of the division belts between Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) from Ukraine and Anthony Joshua (24 -2, 22 KOs) from England.
According to Warren, “Fury announced a comeback and a third fight with Derek Chisora for a reason. By this, he made it clear that he was interested in the winner of the rematch between Usyk and Joshua. And he will definitely meet him in the ring.”
Usyk and Joshua had their first fight last September in London (England). The Ukrainian won by decision of the judges. The revenge will take place on August 20 in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). Warren Prediction: “I would love to see Joshua win. I want to see him fight Tyson. But that’s what my heart says. And my mind puts on Usyk. I won’t be surprised if he wins ahead of schedule.”
Previously, Fury fought Chisora twice, twice won confident victories, the second time ahead of schedule. Explains Warren: “Tyson has long made us a list of four fighters with whom he would like to fight before he finally retires. And Chisora was one of them. I guess Fury just wants to stay in shape as he prepares for the winner of Usyk vs Joshua 2.”
Warren believes that Fury vs. Chisora 3 will not be so easy to organize: “Don’t forget that the World Cup starts in November. So the fight can be planned somewhere after January. I am sure that everything will become clear in the next 3-4 days.”
Yesterday promoter Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing) finally admitted that Joshua is no longer the leader of the heavyweight: “Even though it hurts.” And co-promoter of the WBC champion Bob Arum (Top Rank) announced his readiness to “organize the Usyk-Fury fight in December.”
