Peter Yan is not the only Russian fighter that the UFC’s seventh-ranked lightweight prospect, Song Yadong, wants to challenge.
According to the Chinese fighter, he plans to one day share the octagon with undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov, who is currently recovering from injury and is ranked twelfth in the rankings.
“We’re definitely going to fight in the future,” MMAnews quoted Song as saying. “I’m really interested in fighting him. I’m not here to get the belt by taking the shortcut. I want to earn it by defeating everyone through my skills. He has his advantages and I have mine. He has good wrestling and control. I have stand-up pressure and good jiu-jitsu.”
Song Yadong previously announced that he plans to defeat Chris Gutierrez on Dec. 9 at UFC Fight Night 233 in Las Vegas and challenge Petr Yan, who is set to return to the octagon on March 9 at UFC 299.
Umar Nuragomedov is riding a four-fight win streak in the UFC, and withdrew from his fight against Corey Sandhagen in July after suffering a shoulder injury in training.
