Azamat Murzakanov is a name to remember as the undefeated Russian picked up another finish at UFC San Diego.
This time Murzakanov delivered a devastating body shot in the third round that put Devin Clark down on the canvas and he never got back up again after absorbing even more strikes until referee Frank Trigg stopped the contest. The end came at 1:18 in the third round with Murzakanov moving to 12-0 in his career with the win.
” My main goal was winning and that was all I focused on,” Murzakanov stated afterwards. I didn’t think about any other thing. Devin is tough as a gun. I was hitting him and nothing was happening so I decided to go down to the body.”
Despite giving up size and reach, Murzakanov was surgical with his strikes as he continuously found a home for a stinging left hand that kept catching Brown on the feet. Murzakanov also cut off the cage as he marched forward to keep Brown on the back foot.
Just as Murzakanov seemed to be taking control, Brown unexpectedly threw a head kick which caught Murzakanov off guard. It put Brown on wobbly legs and temporarily disabled him. Although he survived the final round, Murzakanov had to restart the match as he returned for round 2.
All the advice that he received in the corner was a success as Murzakanov quickly took control and he slapped Brown several times with stiff punches. This changed the momentum. Murzakanov was showing incredible speed and power as he continuously caught Brown with his punches.
Another left-hand blasted Brown, and placed him on the floor. Murzakanov then went to the ground in search of the finish. Brown was able to make it through round one in survival mode, but Murzakanov dealt him a lot before the horn went off.
Murzakanov started dishing out more of the same in the final round until he backed Brown up towards the cage and that’s when he launched a thudding left hand to the body. As soon as the shot reverberated off Brown’s midsection, he fell to the ground and he never got back up again until the fight was over.
Now 2-0 at the UFC, Murzakanov is a dangerous striker and is making waves in light heavyweight.
