UFC president responds to Aljamain Sterling's claims

UFC President Dana White has responded to criticism from reigning UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling, who expressed dissatisfaction with the way the head of the organization refuted his statement about the cancellation of the title fight with Sean O’Malley.

“You’d think I was the one who came out and said ‘if I can recover’ when we were already announcing and promoting the fight,” White told FanSided. “If you are not healthy, do not take the fight. Then we’ll find someone else to fight for the interim title.”

“You don’t need to promise to go to the fight, and then say all sorts of dubious things. I was asked at a press conference if he would fight or not and I answered. Or should I have remained silent so that the fans would continue to rack their brains? In what way does my answer not do it justice? It’s kind of ridiculous.”

A bantamweight title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley will be the main event of UFC 292 on August 19 in Boston.
