UFC President Dana White has confirmed that reigning UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, whose contract ends next month, will remain with the organization.
“I think we are moving in the right direction with Francis,” the head of the organization said in an interview with ESPN. “Look, no one doubts that Francis should be in the UFC and finish his legacy in the UFC. And we’re close to making a deal.”
“That’s my philosophy – we do everything in our power to keep the one we need. But the reality is that if you don’t want to be here, we don’t need it either, and I’m not saying this in a negative way. If we’re not in the same boat, it doesn’t work. We are either together or we are not.”
Sources previously informed have revealed that a heavyweight title fight between Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones is in the works and could headline UFC 285 in Las Vegas on March 4.
