Amanda Lemos made one mistake to get a terrible guillotine choke, and then she tapped out Michelle Waterson at the UFC Long Island comain event.
Waterson tried a takedown, which Lemos avoided. Lemos saw the opportunity for the submission and ended the fight. As soon as Lemos grabbed the neck, she fell down into her guard and Waterson tapped just seconds later — even with referee Kevin McDonald in a bad position to actually see her concede to the submission.
The official stoppage came at 1:48 in the second round.
” It was my defeat against Jessica Andrade that drove me to fight again.” Lemos shared her thoughts about the loss. “I came here to win and get a victory. My height is greater and she ducks her head quite a bit. I’ve trained the guillotine hundreds of thousands of times for this fight.”
Heavily favored by the oddsmakers, Lemos lived up to the billing with some nasty kicks that starting chipping away at Waterson as she attacked the legs and body in succession. Lemos also swung hammers with her fists as she looked to take off Waterson’s head off with every punch thrown.
Waterson finally responded with a takedown. Lemos, however, did an excellent job of avoiding any serious damage and reversed positions as soon as the second round was over.
The second round was more like the first, as Lemos pounded Waterson with kicks and forced Waterson to turn her back on grappling. Waterson jumped in to takedown but Lemos saw Waterson leave her neck open and was forced to turn her attention towards the guillotine choke.
Lemos took the submission, and didn’t stop until Waterson submitted or went to bed. Ultimately, Waterson tapped rather than roll over and get locked in a mounted guillotine choke.
The victory put Lemos back on track following a loss to Andrade, while Waterson fell to 1-4 in her past five fights.
