UFC head named terms of rematch between Makhachev and Oliveira

Reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev will return to the octagon in six months at the earliest.

This was announced by UFC head Dana White at a press conference in New York, answering a journalist’s question about the timing of the rematch between the Russian and Charles Oliveira.

“So far we have no specifics, but most likely, this fight will take place in the summer,” – said the head of the strongest league of the world.

The title fight between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira was supposed to headline UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi on October 21, but twelve days before the fight, the Brazilian suffered a dissection and dropped out of the event, and his place on the card was taken by Australian Alexander Volkanovski, who lost to the Russian by knockout in the first round.

Last October, Makhachev won the vacant UFC lightweight championship belt by finishing Oliveira with an arm-triangle choke in the second round.
