UFC Fight Night 239 took place in Las Vegas. In the main event, UFC heavyweight Ty Tuivasa, the ninth-ranked heavyweight in the UFC, failed to get his career back on track after three consecutive early losses, losing to top-ten ranked Marcin Tybura in the first round.
The Australian managed to dissect his opponent in one of his first attacks, however, in the second minute of the fight, the Pole moved Tuivasa, took his back, and landed several dozen punches to the head before delivering a rear-naked choke and putting him to sleep a minute before the half-time bell.
In a post-fight interview, Marcin Tybura, who closed out an early loss to Tom Aspinall, said that he is ready to fight any fighter from the top-10 division that the organization puts up against him.
In the co-main event, American welterweight Brian Battle, after winning the first round against Ange Lusa, poked his opponent in the eye with his finger in the second five minutes while defending against the Congolese’s attempted takedown, resulting in the bout being stopped and ruled a no contest.
In the third main event of the tournament, former challenger for the interim UFC bantamweight championship belt, Ovince St. Preux, defeated Kennedy Nzechukwu by split decision.
Other results included early wins for Macey Chiasson, Gerald Merschart, Mike Davis, Japhel Filho, Jacqueline Amorim and Tiago Moises.
