UFC Fight Night 236 results: Hermansson defeats Peifer

UFC Fight Night 236 took place in Las Vegas. In the main event, the eleventh-ranked middleweight of the organization, Jack Hermansson, confirmed his level and did not let American prospect Joe Pifer, who came into the fight as a three-time favorite, into the top 15 of the division.

After surviving two difficult rounds in which Pifer had a clear advantage in the standup, the Swedish-Norwegian fighter managed to turn the tide of the fight in the third five-minute round, giving his opponent significant problems with his jab and low-kick right. In the final round, “The Joker” outworked his opponent and controlled him in the boxing ring for the rest of the fight, eventually picking up a 48-47 three round unanimous decision victory.

In a post-fight interview, Jack Hermansson stated that he wants to see Nassurdin Imavov, ranked eighth in the UFC middleweight rankings, as his next opponent.

In the co-main event, American welterweight Dan Ige knocked out his compatriot Andre Fili with a right jab in the first round.

In the third event of the tournament, Ukrainian fighter Igor Losing made a successful debut in the UFC middleweight division, defeating Polish newcomer Robert Bryczek by unanimous decision over three rounds.

Other results included a disappointing performance by Armenian middleweight Armen Petrosyan, who lost by arm-triangle choke to Brazilian Rodolfo Vieira with two seconds left in the first round, as well as the first UFC victory for Russian-Uzbek welterweight Bogdan Guskov, who knocked out American Zach Pauga in the fourth minute of the match.

Gregory Rodriguez, Carlos Pretez and Haider Emil recorded early wins.
