UFC Fight Night 231 results: Jailton Almeida defeats Derrick Lewis

UFC Fight Night 231 took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and in the main event, UFC heavyweight division number nine Jailton Almeida expectedly defeated Derrick Lewis, but he didn’t do it in the way many might have expected.

The heavyweight bout headlining the event went the full distance, with the judges’ five-round unanimous decision scores of 50-45 and 50-44 twice giving the victory to the Brazilian, who dominated the American in the parterre for most of the match.

In each round, “The Black Beast” managed to stay on his feet for no more than a minute, after which Almeida moved his opponent, and until the break, made unsuccessful attempts to finish Lewis in the parterre.

With his sixth straight win in the UFC, Jailton Almeida won by decision for the first time in his career and went the distance in five rounds, while Derrick Lewis, stepping in to replace the injured Curtis Blades, suffered his fifth loss in his last seven fights.

In the second most important event of the event, Danish welterweight Nicolas Dalby gave an unpleasant surprise to the local fans, finishing by technical knockout in the second round the previously undefeated Brazilian prospect Gabriel Bonfim, who came into the fight as a big favorite.

From other results we should note another defeat of Abusupiyan Magomedov, a native of Dagestan, representing Germany, who lost to Brazilian middleweight Caio Borrallo by unanimous decision after three rounds, as well as the performance of Russian Rinat Fakhretdinov, who drew a fight with Brazilian Eliseu Zaleski dos Santos in the welterweight category.

A bout between former AMC Fight Nights light heavyweight champion Armen Petrosyan and Brazilian Rodolfo Vieira was canceled at the last minute due to the Armenian fighter’s illness.

Elvis Brenner, Vitor Petrino and Eduarda Moura earned early victories.
