UFC Fight Night 216 results: Kannonir and Tsarukyan win

Las Vegas hosted the final tournament of the strongest league in the world this year, in the main event of which the former contender for the UFC middleweight title, Jared Cannonier, successfully defended the third line in the ranking in the confrontation with Sean Strickland, who occupies the seventh position in the division.

In the mode of not the toughest sparring, the headliners spent all five rounds in the octagon, as a result of which the judges gave the victory to Kannonir by a split decision with a score of 49-46 twice and 46-49.

In the co-main event of the event, Russian lightweight Arman Tsarukyan defeated Damir Ismagulov three times by unanimous decision with a score of 30-27, most of the time of the match controlling his compatriot on the ground and in the clinch.

After the fight, Tsarukyan, whom Ismagulov refused to shake hands with, announced that he wanted to see one of the top fighters in the division as his next opponent, a victory over which would give him the right to fight for the championship belt.

Among other results of the event, we note the successful performances of the Russians Said Nurmagomedov and Rinat Fakhretdinov. Nurmagomedov finished with a choke in the second round of Saidyokub Kakhramonov representing Uzbekistan, and Fakhretdinov won by unanimous decision against American Brian Battle.

Early victories were won by Amir Albazi, Alex Caceres, Drew Dober and Michal Oleksiychuk.
