UFC 300 anniversary tournament may be without a big main event fight

The UFC 300 numbered tournament, which takes place April 13 in Las Vegas, may be without a big main event to match the anniversary event.

This was reported by renowned sports columnist Ariel Helwani on the regular edition of The MMA Hour program.

“I don’t see a big fight there,” the reporter stated. “I’ve asked around about Izzy – I don’t think he’s going to be there. There’s been talk of a fight between Izzy and Pereira, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. There’s talk about Masvidal, who said he hasn’t retired, but he won’t be on that card. He wasn’t talking about UFC 300, in case you were wondering.”

“There was talk about Nate Diaz, but he won’t be on this card. His future plans don’t include the UFC, and in particular, UFC 300. So, if we look at UFC 300, I don’t see anything really worthy there.”

“I know they have a rabbit in the hat that they’re working on, but that’s not the main event. There’s one big fight, but it’s not the mainevent. They’re trying to make the event as special as possible, I know that, but to me there’s nothing more special than Conor coming back.”

“So there are a few potential rabbits, and one particular one they’re hoping for, but I don’t know if they can pull it off. But is there a rabbit worthy of a main event fight that fans will definitely buy? They don’t have such a rabbit. We’ve talked about UFC 300 for so long, but they don’t have anything worthy of a main event. Maybe I’m missing something?”

As of now, there is one known championship fight that could take place at UFC 300, however, a welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad has yet to be officially announced.
