Top middleweight ready to replace Paulo Costa in fight with Khamzat Chimaev

No. 7 ranked UFC middleweight Roman Dolidze is ready on short notice to replace Paulo Costa, who is apparently pulling out of his fight with Khamzat Chimaev.

“Hamzat? UFC 294,” the Georgian fighter wrote on social media.

A few hours earlier, the head of the UFC, Dana White, confirmed the information that the fight between Chimaev and Costa may be canceled due to the surgery that the Brazilian underwent three weeks ago. At the same time, the head of the organization stated that they are already negotiating with fighters who could step in as replacements and face Borz.

The fight with the Chechen was reportedly offered to Marvin Vettori, a top-five middleweight division fighter, but the Italian declined the bout.

Roman Dolidze, 35, had his four-fight win streak snapped in March this year when he lost by unanimous decision to Vettori. The Georgian representative is scheduled to fight next on December 2 in Minneapolis against fourth-ranked American Jared Cannonier.

Recall that the tournament UFC 294 will be held on October 21 in Abu Dhabi.
