Top American coach Ronnie Shields, known for his collaboration with Vernon Forrest, Pernell Whitaker, Evander Holyfield, Guillermo Rigondeaux and Mike Tyson, believes that the Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) and the Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko (16-2 , 11 KOs) no room in top 10 P4P rating.

“Explain to me how Canelo and Lomachenko can stay in the top 10 after losing? —
interested in mentor. What then are the evaluation criteria for R4R? I understand it this way. That there are so tough guys in the ranking that they will remain champions even if they change divisions. Canelo tried his hand at light heavyweight and lost. This means that here it is – its limit. This means that he has no place in the top 10. Lomachenko completely lost 3 years ago. What does he do on the list? He, too, was already resting his head on the ceiling. Yes, he has phenomenal technique, but even in his weight he is not the strongest. And he has not even tried to conquer the division higher. So it should not be on the list a priori.”

Shields believes that his former charge undisputed junior middleweight champion American Jermell Charlo (35-1-1, 19 KOs) should be much higher in the “pound”: “Canelo and Lomachenko take the place of e-Charlo. Judge for yourself, he is the absolute champion. Yes, Canelo is also an absolute, but only for the reason that he did not give up titles when he moved to light heavyweight. And Lomachenko has no belts at all. I’ll tell you more. This is not my opinion, this is the truth. Canelo is unworthy of a place in the pound after losing.

Shields, of course, is talking about P4P rating according to The Ring magazine. In it, Alvarez and Lomachenko occupy the 5th and 6th places, respectively, and Charlo is located on the 9th. Interestingly, Ronnie and I partially agree – Lomachenko left the “pound” from WMMAAand in his place came the owner of all belts in lightweight American Devin Haney.
