Tony Ferguson sentenced to one year in prison on probation

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson, who was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department in May of this year for a drunk driving accident, has reached a plea deal with prosecutors and has been sentenced to one year in jail on probation.

According to an online court transcript, the fighter was cleared of the DUI charge and faces a lesser charge of reckless driving on a wet road.

On May 7, Tony Ferguson’s pickup truck demolished several cars parked outside a nightclub in Hollywood and flipped over. The UFC fighter was arrested after he refused to take a field sobriety test and cooperate with police officers who arrived on the scene and noted the odor of alcohol emanating from him in the report.

Two and a half months after the incident, Tony Ferguson suffered his sixth straight defeat, losing by arm-triangle choke in the third round to fellow countryman Bobby Green at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City.

The 39-year-old American will return to the octagon on Dec. 16 at UFC 296 in Las Vegas, and will attempt to get his career back on track against 28-year-old Brit Paddy Pimblett.
