Tom Aspinall has claimed superiority over Jon Jones

After coming face-to-face with Jon Jones, UFC interim heavyweight titleholder Tom Aspinall has no doubts that he will prevail over the division’s current champion if a unification bout with the American ever takes place.

“He’s nowhere near as big as I thought he was – I thought he was a lot taller,” the Brit stated. “When you’re 193 centimeters tall fighting at flyweight you seem very tall, but I’m a real heavyweight and there’s no way he’s as big as me. Size doesn’t matter, we’re both big guys, but I can handle him. I think I’ll definitely beat him.”

During last weekend’s encounter, Tom Aspinall attempted to perform his signature stunt and put his hand on his potential opponent’s shoulder, but Jon Jones not only stopped it, but refused to have a staredown with him.

Recall that last November Jon Jones was scheduled to go out for a defense of his championship belt against Stipe Miocic, but tore a pectoral muscle and pulled out of the fight, while Tom Aspinall won the interim title at UFC 295 by knocking out Sergey Pavlovic in the first round.

After his recovery, Jones will fight Miocic, while Aspinall will likely step up to defend his belt against American Curtis Blades, who he lost to two years ago due to a knee injury.
