Tom Aspinall has agreed to fight Stipe Miocic

UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall claims that the organization’s management has offered him the opportunity to take part in the UFC 300 anniversary event and make a title defense against Stipe Miocic.

“UFC officials contacted my manager and asked if I would like to fight Stipe Miocic on April 13, and I of course agreed,” the Brit wrote on social media. “A little later we were informed that Stipe didn’t want to fight me and was only interested in a fight with Jon Jones.”

“At this point I stop crying, accept that it’s not going to happen, and enjoy the fight that I and all the other fans want to see. A legend against a legend for the heavyweight title. Maximum respect, guys. Yay.”

Jon Jones, who holds the reigning UFC heavyweight title, was scheduled to make his defense against Stipe Miocic on Nov. 11 at UFC 295 in New York City, but the champion pulled out of the bout two weeks before the tournament after tearing a pectoral muscle, while Tom Aspinall won the interim championship belt in a numbered event by knocking out Russian Sergey Pavlovic in 69 seconds.

According to the UFC’s plan, Jones is scheduled to fight Miocic after his recovery, while Aspinall will make a defense of the interim belt against one of the division’s top fighters.
