This week
another scandal eruptedassociated with World Boxing Association (WBA). This corruption-riddled organization is accused of gross violations: non-compliance Act (law) of Muhammad Ali and receiving bribes through nominees to lobby positions in the rankings.

The only problem is that the accuser is promoter Greg Cohen (Greg Cohen Promotions) is also far from a person with a crystal clear reputation (he was serving a prison sentence for fraud). He talks about the presence of a certain company Sports Consulting Services, through which they receive bribes in the WBA. Interestingly, the director of this structure is Alfredo Mendoza, the son of the president of the WBA.

If the accusation is confirmed (and the investigation is in full swing), then this will be recognized as a gross violation Akta Ali – employees of the organization that sanctioned the fight cannot receive any compensation, gift or benefit from the managers or promoters involved in the organization of this fight.

Mendoza denies all allegations, but declines to comment as “an investigation is underway.”

Interestingly, earlier in the WBA they announced a return to the USA, closer to the big money. Looks like they rushed. President AAssociation of Boxing Commissions (ABC) Mike Mazzulli has already stated that if “the accusations are confirmed, then the WBA may forget about plans to relocate to America.”

Last year, the WBA already had very serious problems – they could even be completely taken out of the game.

In the meantime, the WBA reported that their “super featherweight champion” Mexican Leo Santa Cruz (38-2-1, 19 KOs) had made a decision. Earlier, he asked for the go-ahead for a unification fight with compatriot Ray Vargas (36-0, 22 KOs), WBC belt holder, but he was refused – he had not defended the belt since 2019 (!) Years.

Santa Cruz must first fight the WBA World champion British Lee Wood (26-2, 16 KOs) – the Mexican weighed all the pros and cons, after which he decided to stay with the title and accept this fight. Rumor has it that in the event of an auction, the prize fund will be distributed in his favor in the ratio of 75/25.

It’s funny, but the other day, the owner of the IBF belt Briton Josh Warrington (31-1-1, 8 KOs) suddenly woke up – he wants to unify first with Santa Cruz, then with Wood. Apparently, he forgot that he must first fight his mandatory challenger Mexican Luis Alberto Lopez (25-2, 14 KOs).

It’s funny that once Warrington already refused the IBF belt due to his unwillingness to fight with an opponent imposed by the organization, after which he immediately got a knockout: video. In March, he again became the champion, after which he said: I want a cheeseburger, beer and quickly climb on my wife.
