The UFC tournament in China has been canceled

The world’s strongest league has abandoned plans to host UFC Fight Night 233, scheduled for Dec. 9, in Shanghai.

This was reported by TSN sports columnist Aaron Bronsteter.

“I can confirm information that the UFC tournament scheduled for Dec. 9 will likely be moved to Las Vegas,” the reporter wrote on social media.

The main event of UFC Fight Night 233 has been announced as a flyweight bout between China’s Song Yadong and Chris Gutierrez, who represents the United States.

In addition to the main event, there are eleven other bouts on the card, all without Russian fighters, although informed sources initially named former UFC flyweight champion Petr Yan as the headliner of the Chinese show. At the same time, Song’s team claims that Yan refused the fight, and according to the Russian side, they were not offered the fight at all.

UFC representatives have not yet made an official statement on the matter. The organization has not returned to China since August 2019, when Weili Zhang and Jessica Andrade headlined UFC Fight Night 157 in Shenzhen.
