This was announced at a press conference in Las Vegas by UFC President Dana White.

When the whole world is arguing who won? This is a real superboy, who one hundred percent justified his status.
“We’ll see what Islam plans to do and when he can come back and Volkanovski should have a unification fight against Yair Rodriguez who won the interim title and also looked amazing. After that, we can have a rematch.”
“I’m not saying that this is the final scenario because a lot can happen, but at the moment I think it makes sense to fight Yair against Volkanovski, bring Islam to the next contender, and then organize a rematch for them.”
On February 11, at UFC 284 in Perth, Islam Makhachev successfully defended the UFC lightweight championship belt, defeating Alexander Volkanovski by unanimous decision, however, he could not dislodge the Australian, who holds the UFC featherweight title, from the first line of the ranking of the best fighters of the organization, regardless of weight.
