The UFC 301 tournament could boost a second championship fight

The UFC 301 tournament in Rio de Janeiro will be greatly enhanced if Alex Pereira successfully defends his flyweight championship belt against Jamal Hill at UFC 300 in Las Vegas on April 13 and comes out of the fight uninjured.

In agreeing to headline the anniversary event, the Brazilian reportedly insisted on including the stipulation in his renewed contract.

This was reported by former UFC fighter and sports analyst Josh Thomson.

“I heard that if Alex Pereira gets past Jamal Hill at UFC 300 and comes out of the fight unscathed, he’ll be on that card – that was part of the new contract he signed,” “Punk” said on another edition of the WEIGHING IN podcast. “If he wins and he’s healthy, he’ll compete in the UFC 301 tournament. That’s also why he agreed to fight at UFC 300.”

The Brazilian announced his desire to compete at UFC 301, which takes place May 4 in Rio de Janeiro, a month ago, days before he signed a new eight-fight deal with the organization.

The main event of the Brazilian numbered event is currently listed as a featherweight title fight between Alexandre Pantoja and Steve Erceg.
