Former WBO heavyweight champion from New Zealand Joseph Parker (30-2, 21 KOs) promised to face off against Olympic medalist from Britain, challenger Joe Joyce (14-0, 13 KOs) – the big men even announced the date of the fight and staged a duel of views.
But then Parker suddenly turned on the back – he signed a contract with promoter Ben Shalom (Boxxer), which cooperates with a competitor TV channel (its shows are shown on Sky Sportswhile Joyce performs at BT Sport).
Parker is eager to return to the ring in September-October, and Shalom has already found a possible opponent for him – this is an uncomfortable big left-hander from Sweden Otto Wallin (24-1, 14 KOs), who in 2019 almost upset Briton Tyson Fury (strongly hit near eyes, which could well be the basis for stopping the fight and awarding the victory by technical knockout to the underdog).
Shalom voiced all options: “First of all, we still hope to arrange a rematch with Parker with Dillian Whyte (lost in 2018 by decision). And we never turned down the Joyce option. But right now, we offered Joseph a fight with Wallin. What other options would he like? I think it’s ex-world champions Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz. He is eager to fight, ready to measure his strength with anyone. He will enter the ring in late September or early October. I think that one of the above fighters will become Parker’s rival. I want to announce it in the coming weeks.”
At the end of June, Joyce even wrote a letter to Parker: “You’re full of shit!” A little earlier, he shared his thoughts on Usyk, Joshua and White. Interestingly, in words, Dillian agrees to once again go against Parker. In 2018, they staged a batch.
