The fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Israel Adesanya has been officially announced

A fight between former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, and the division’s number eleven ranked fighter, Hamzat Chimaev, will headline the main event of the organization’s debut event in Saudi Arabia, which takes place June 23 in Riyadh.

Representatives of the world’s strongest league have not made any statements on the matter, however, the Kingdom Arena, which will host the show, has officially announced the event and opened ticket sales.

“The next UFC event will take place in Riyadh at the Kingdome Arena and the main event will be a fight between Israel Adesanya and Hamzat Chimaev,” reads the announcement posted on the arena’s official website. “For Adesanya, the meeting with Chimaev will be a real test. Whether he can regain his status as a winner or whether victory will go to the feisty Chechen is a question on everyone’s mind who follows the events in the world of the UFC”

Israel Adesanya last stepped into the octagon last September, sensationally losing by unanimous decision to Sean Strickland and losing his UFC middleweight championship belt.

The undefeated Khamzat Chimaev earned his seventh UFC victory last October with a three-round majority decision over former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
