A potential lightweight contender fight between Charles Oliveira and Benil Dariush is in the works and could take place this May.
“Initially, I was offered to fight Charles Oliveira in Rio de Janeiro, but there was little time to prepare, and it was decided to move the fight to February, which suited me completely,” Dariush said in an interview with The Schmo. “Then they said that it would take place in March, then in April, and now we are discussing May. I don’t know what will come of it, I don’t have absolute certainty that this fight will take place, but I prefer to fight earlier, in March or April.”
Last October at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi, Charles Oliveira failed to capture the vacant UFC lightweight championship belt, losing by arm triangle choke in the second round to Islam Makhachev, and Benil Dariush scored his eighth consecutive victory at the same event, winning by unanimous decision. by Mateusz Gamrot.
Oliveira and Dariush are currently ranked #1 and #4 in the UFC lightweight rankings, respectively.
