The team of the Russian MMA fighter Movsar Evloev issued a statement about the withdrawal from the fight against the Georgian Ilia Topuria at the UFC 270 tournament.
“The team and I hoped that the coronavirus would release Movsar and he would still be able to recover and fight at UFC 270,” the message on the Team Evloev Instagram page says. “Unfortunately, this infection, which has claimed many lives, does not leave the human body so easily and not without consequences (weakness, shortness of breath). We have asked the UFC to save this fight and we hope it stays that way as it was one of the most highly anticipated fights in the UFC and has been canceled due to reasons beyond our control.”
A 27-year-old Russian passed a positive test for coronavirus. Evloev has 15 victories in 15 MMA fights. The 24-year-old Topuria has 11 wins in 11 fights.
UFC 270 will take place on January 22 in Anaheim.
