A flyweight title fight between the division’s reigning champion, Sean O’Malley, and No. 1 ranked Merab Dvalishvili will be part of UFC 306, which takes place Sept. 14 at the Sphere Arena in Las Vegas.
The Georgian fighter told UFC India about the organization of the fight in an interview.
Merab Dvalishvili, 33, earned his tenth consecutive victory with a unanimous decision win over Henry Cejudo at UFC 298 in Anaheim this past February.
Sean O’Malley, 29, made the first successful defense of his title in March, defeating Marlon Vera by a five-round unanimous decision on judges’ scorecards at UFC 299 in Miami. Last August, the American took the championship belt from his compatriot Aljamain Sterling, finishing him by TKO in the second round.
Representatives of the world’s strongest league have not yet made official statements on the matter.
