Teddy Atlas estimated the chances of Sergei Pavlovich in a fight with Jon Jones

Russian puncher Sergei Pavlovich is technically, physically and mentally strong enough to compete with the current UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, the famous American boxing trainer Teddy Atlas is sure.

“Pavlovich has shown why he is a force to be reckoned with and that’s why I would like to see him against Jon Jones,” MMAnews quoted the expert as saying. “That would be very interesting. He has the physical strength and ability and seems to have developed enough technically to compete with Jones on the stand.”

Atlas believes that Pavlovich will give Jones a more competitive fight than Cyril Gun, who lost to the American in two minutes without putting up any resistance.

“He has one more thing, and I think that’s the most important part, he’s strong enough mentally that it’s really interesting. This is where Gan frankly failed. I prefer not to pick on or kick someone who fell, but Gan wasn’t mentally strong enough. I think it showed up even when he lost to Ngannou. Jones was too strong for him, not only physically, but also mentally. This is the difference between Gan and Pavlovich. I think Pavlovich will be mentally strong enough to compete with Jones.”

Last weekend, Sergey Pavlovich knocked out Curtis Blades in the first round and became the main candidate for the fight with the winner of the title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic, which is scheduled for November this year.
