Russian lightweight Mairbek Taisumov is one of Alexander Volkanovski’s main sparring partners, imitating the Australian style of Islam Makhachev in the training camp.
Volkanovski’s trainer, Frank Hickman, spoke about this.
“We invited Mayrbeck to the camp – we have known him for a long time, he is a big guy and has the right fighting style,” said the Australian specialist. “He helps us work out certain positions, bad scenarios. Mayrbeck is the best fit for this.”
Mairbek Taisumov, 34, fought his last fight in the UFC in September 2019, losing by unanimous decision to Diego Ferreira. Prior to this, Bekhan won six victories in a row in the organization, knocking out five opponents. In May 2021, the Russian announced that he would soon receive an American visa and resume his career in the UFC, but since then he has not returned to the octagon.
A few days earlier, Russian lightweight Arman Tsarukyan, who rejected the offer, spoke about the invitation to the team of Alex Volkanovski.
Recall that the title superfight between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski, who will have the UFC lightweight championship belt owned by a Russian at stake, will head the UFC 284 tournament in Perth, Australia, on February 11.
