The unified light heavyweight champion playing for Canada, Russian Artur Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs) is aiming for a unification fight with compatriot Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs), the owner of the WBA Super belt missing from the complete collection.
Beterbiev promises to do everything possible to make this fight take place in the summer.
Tells promoter Carl MorettiTop Rank): “We will do absolutely everything in our power to organize a duel with Bivol. The only barrier is if Dimitri has already promised a rematch to Canelo Alvarez. But I know that he is a real fighter. I know that his priority is unification in the light heavyweights.
There is one more obstacle on the way to this fight – Beterbiev is obliged to fight the mandatory challenger in the WBC line, Briton Callum Smith. According to Moretti, “It is for this reason that action must be taken immediately. The fight can be held in the summer, that is, after Ramadan.”
Over the weekend, Beterbiev had a fierce fight with the WBO mandatory challenger Briton Anthony Yard – he won ahead of schedule. Our coverage of this event: Fireworks in London.
