Stipe Miocic replied to Tom Aspinall

Former UFC heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic addressed the division’s interim champion, Tom Aspinall, letting the Brit know that he’s not going to give up his title fight against Jon Jones.

“I have never delayed a fight with Jon Jones,” the American wrote on social media, addressing the Brit. “Tom, once I’m victorious, let’s discuss a unification fight.”

The day before, Aspinall once again stated that he did not consider a bout between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic to be relevant, calling the organization of a unification fight with the current division champion the only correct option.

In particular, the Brit pointed to the fact that the last time Miocic won almost four years ago, and also compared the heavyweight to his compatriot Tony Ferguson, who is going through bad times in his career.

Tom Aspinall won the interim championship belt on Nov. 11 at UFC 295 in New York, knocking out Russian Sergey Pavlovich in the 69th second of the fight. The organization’s management made the decision to play out the interim title after reigning division champion Jon Jones dropped out of the numbered event with an injury and was scheduled to make a defense against Stipe Miocic.

At the same time, the head of the world’s strongest league, Dana White, said that they will not deprive the American of the title, and will hold a scheduled fight with Miocic after the return of the champion, and Aspinall will defend the interim belt. The most likely candidate to fight the Brit is the winner of the fight between Curtis Blades and Jailton Almeida, which takes place on March 9 at UFC 299 in Miami.
