Over the weekend in Manchester (England) in the middleweight limit, local ex-champion Liam Smith (33-3-1, 20 KOs) knocked out ex-challenger Chris Eubank Jr. (32-3, 23 KOs) as an underdog, after which he quit challenge to the holder of WBA Super/IBF titles Kazakhstani Gennady Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs).

new member International Boxing Hall of Fame British Carl Froch
believesthat Smith had better stay away from Golovkin: “What’s next for Liam? Would love to see him in a big fight. Big – financially. And then I would like him to hang up his gloves, because he has already reached the final stage of his career. Therefore, I would suggest just such an option – a money fight and the end of a career.

“Fight against Golovkin? Froch thought. — Yes, financially it is a big fight. But I wouldn’t want Smith to get hit hard. And I think Golovkin will hurt Liam. Do not forget that for older athletes, it is striking power that lasts. A rematch with Eubank? I’ll be surprised if Chris activates the rematch clause…”

Interestingly, on the eve of this fight, Froch said: Eubank can beat Golovkin, but lose to Smith. Meanwhile, Liam has already announced the terms for a rematch with Chris.
