As we reported earlier, the rising star of profiboxing, WBC world champion in the second flyweight (up to 52.2 kg) American Jesse Rodriguez (16-0, 11 KOs) will perform as part of the evening of September 17 in Las Vegas, the main event of which will be the third fight between Saul Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

It was announced today that Rodriguez’s fight will be the main event of the show, and his opponent will be the Mexican Israel Gonzalez (28-4-1, 11 KOs).

Recall that Jesse won the title in February of this year, defeating ex-champion from Mexico Carlos Cuadras on points. On June 25, Rodriguez made his first successful defense, stopping another ex-champion, Thai Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in the 8th round.

Gonzalez had previously challenged world titles at 52.2 kg three times and failed on all occasions:

  • February 2018: Lost by TKO 10 to Jervin Ancajas

  • – November 2018: UD 12 lost to Khalid Yafai
  • – October 2020: UD 12 lost to Roman Gonzalez.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez’s coach Robert Garcia named two fighters with whom he wants to bring the ward.
