Shakur Stevenson vs Gervonta Davis? Arum explained why this should not happen

Former world champion in two categories, American Shakur Stevenson (19-0, 9 KOs), after the previously announced transition to lightweight (up to 61.2 kg), may not count on a fight against compatriot and WBA World title holder Gervonta “Tank” Davis ( 27-0, 25 KOs) because the latter’s entourage has chosen a different path for him and deliberately avoids crossing with really dangerous colleagues.

This opinion was voiced by Stevenson’s promoter, the head of Top Rank, Bob Arum.

“I don’t think (Mayweather Promotions CEO) Ellerbee would want Tank Davis to fight Shakur,” suggests Arum. “If you follow what they are doing, there is a noticeable trend because at the moment they are following the Mayweather game plan and staying away from any opponent who has a good chance of beating Tank. And this is Shakur, Haney and (Ryan) Garcia. They are in no hurry to arrange any of these fights.

“Well, OK, if they want to put Davis against easier opponents, then this is their choice,” Bob throws up his hands. “They don’t do anything wrong. They don’t owe anyone anything if they don’t want to fight those three guys. But, again, this is Mayweather’s plan, and no one can argue that for Mayweather himself, it worked.”
