The UFC’s number two ranked heavyweight, Sergei Pavlovic, reacted to the news that he will step up to fight for the interim championship belt against Brit Tom Aspinall in two and a half weeks.
“Greetings everyone, it has been reported that Jon Jones came off his title shot at UFC 295 with an injury. We have been offered a fight against Tom Aspinall for the interim UFC heavyweight championship belt. This news has already been officially confirmed by the UFC. Let’s get ready!”, – wrote the Russian in his Telegram channel.
Earlier it became known that the current UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who was scheduled to go out for a title defense against Stipe Miocic on November 11 at UFC 295 in New York, tore a pectoral muscle and pulled out of the fight. Why Miocic is not a participant in the fight for the interim championship belt has not been reported.
The title fight between Pavlovic and Aspinall will be the second most important event of the upcoming numbered event. The Russian is in a better position than the Brit, as he has been preparing for UFC 295 as a backup for the championship fight.
