Secret UFC management correspondence regarding Jon Jones released in court

A court filing in the UFC’s ongoing antitrust case has revealed portions of documents from a decade ago regarding contract extension negotiations with Jon Jones, who at the time held the UFC bantamweight title and refused to extend his current agreement with the organization without a significant pay raise.

Specifically, text correspondence between Dana White, who served as UFC president, and billionaire Lorenzo Fertitta, who owned the world’s strongest league at the time, was published.

White: “What’s up with Jones? Is he behaving himself, or is he still being an asshole?”

Fertitta: “Still like a dick, but we’ve made progress. He didn’t move on the money, but he sent an ultimatum letter.”

White: “Awesome. Fuck that punk, Lorenzo. He needs to know we don’t need him, or he’s gonna start pushing us harder than he is now.”

Last March, Jon Jones resumed his career after a three-year hiatus, finishing Cyril Gagne with a guillotine choke in the first round and winning the vacant UFC heavyweight championship belt. In November, the American was scheduled to defend the belt against his compatriot Stipe Miocic, but was injured and dropped out of the title fight.
